STV Contact us - Privacy Notice
When you contact the STV enquiries team your personal information is processed by STV Central Limited. Our enquiries team handle enquiries (including comments, requests and complaints) on behalf of, and share your information within the STV group of companies (collectively “STV”), including STV Group plc, STV Central Limited, STV North Limited and STV Studios Limited where necessary to respond to your enquiry.
This privacy notice tells you what to expect us to do with your personal data when you make contact with us with an enquiry. Other privacy notices will be provided from time-to-time providing details of how your personal data is handled in other interactions with STV.

STV Central Limited is generally the controller for the personal information we process, but please note that the enquiries team may handle matters relating to the STV group companies mentioned above, which may be data controller.

What information we collect, use, and why
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you when you make an enquiry, or where you have already provided it to us (for example if you are a customer). We may source your information indirectly, for example, where it is publicly available on social media or the internet if it relevant to your request.
When you contact us we need contact details and enough information from you to enable us to investigate and answer your enquiry or pass it to the relevant STV group company for a response. In certain circumstances we may need verification documentation to validate your identity before we can respond or disclose any personal information relating to you.
We use your information to handle and track your enquiry, to track them through to conclusion, to improve our customer service, and for dispute handling purposes. When you contact us, we will set up a file which will normally include the information you have provided, that we have gathered, and our response to your communication.
Lawful bases and data protection rights
Under UK data protection law, we must have a “lawful basis” for collecting and using your personal information. There is a list of possible lawful bases in the UK GDPR. Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. You can request other information such as details about where we get personal information from and who we share personal information with. There are some exemptions which means you may not receive all the information you ask for.

Your right to rectification- You have the right to ask us to correct or delete personal information you think is inaccurate or incomplete.

Your right to erasure- You have the right to ask us to delete your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing- You have the right to ask us to limit how we can use your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing- You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data if we are able to process your information because it is in our legitimate interests to do so.

Your right to withdraw consent– When we use consent as our lawful basis you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
If you wish to make a data subject rights request please contact our Data Governance Manager via privacyteam@stv.tv. If you make a request, we will respond to you without undue delay and in any event within one month.

Contract – we have to collect or use the information so we can enter into or carry out a contract with you. All of your data protection rights may apply except the right to object.

Legal obligation – we have to collect or use your information so we can comply with the law. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to erasure, the right to object and the right to data portability.

Legitimate interests – we’re collecting or using your information because it benefits you, our organisation or someone else, without causing an undue risk of harm to anyone. To manage our relationship with you which will include, for example: Responding to any of your enquiries.
How long we keep information
We keep a copy of the information you provide to us and our response to you for at least five (5) years, unless we have a legal obligation to keep the information for longer, for example in the event of a claim.

Data Processors
We engage service providers and data processing companies to act on our behalf from time to time to help manage your data. We require those we share it with to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law and our strict instructions. Please note that some of these companies may be either located and/or have servers which are located outside the UK (please see below for further detail). These include:

Sharing information outside the UK
Whenever we transfer your personal data out of the UK to authorised suppliers providing functionality or other services to us, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:
- We will only transfer your personal data to countries within the EEA or other countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data by the UK Government.
- Otherwise, where we use service providers outside the UK or the EEA, we will only transfer your personal data using appropriate mechanisms approved by the UK Government (which may include specific contractual documentation) which give personal data the same protection it has in the UK.
